You like it rough?

» Filed Under: Thinking Out Loud

I've noticed a few newsletters and blogs where the writer "suddenly" experienced a shift to a more "rough" and "raw" personality.

Wha.. huh?

Is that the "in" thing now? Have I really managed to join the ranks of the old-and-crusty without realizing it? Is being Chris Rock-like so profitable, that writers are ready an willing to abandon their true personality and take on this new "I don't take no B.S." identity without stopping to think about how ridiculous that's going to make them look?

It's like Donnie and Marie trying to fit in with the Osbournes, hoping no one will notice anything. Maybe it's just me, but, it ain't workin' yo.

He said - She said...

I have noticed this trend as well. I suppose these writers are going for "shock" value? Although it may help to delete their previous posts to "erase" their former identity?

Maybe they got tired of their same boring self and wanted to try something more exciting. They should at least get rid of their old material to keep from looking stupid though - yeah, I agree.

Saaaaaaaaaweet. Comments back. Yeah doggies.

Comments are better with this software. Manilla makes it do difficult (that is what I use for one of my 7 blogs).

Ok so the raw personality. Yeah. It is like when MC hammer went gangsta. Back to bein a preacher now. Identity in crisis.

I have found that there are moments that make sense to change persona's. If you try to do it to spin a new identity or brand you lose.

However, if you do it in response to something it seems to take.

For instance, If Hammer was caught cheating on his wife in a public way, if his kid would have died, if other bad stuff happened he coulda pulled the gangsta thing off...

However, he would have needed to take some time off. Create a bit of mayhem. Then perhaps CREATE other gangsta artists.

It seems that just wanting to cross over to another arena comes off as cheesy. It should because it is.

However, people understand life events changing identity.

And it works from going from bad to good. Madonna for example.

Ok. Enough from me. I need to blog it at my place tonight.

Thanks for opening up your comments.

I am not convinced that shock value is a bad thing. It certainly creates thinking. It seems that it is a bit relative (what shocks the pope ain't gonna phase Ozzy [not sure anything would with his state of mind]).

Therefore censoring the shockers...hmmm. How sterile.

Yet, I think there is a difference in edginess and being inhumane. Cruel. Cruelty removes compassion from truth. That might be able to be qualified.

However, I was under the impression that Carmen was dealing with people that were doing it all for the image.

That, to me, is humerous. Who would want to be edgy just for the flavor of the month club. There are costs. Big costs. Many people feel unfomfortable around you. That is the start.

Anyway, faking the voice (as Carmen was saying)is detectable. Mainly because edgy people, like "cool" folks, do not do much intrusive, "hey look I am cool" marketing.

Saying you are cool makes you oh so not. Unless you are and then, of course you are.

This logical post now ends.
