Hiding Comment E-mails From HarvestersThursday, May 27, 2004
» Filed Under: Blogging
For the last recent months, I've been replacing the e-mail addresses of all who posted a comment without submitting a URL, with a forwarding address to protect their information from spam harvesters... Well, it looks like I didn't even have to go through all that trouble since movabletype has a feature that disables the e-mail link for comments submitted without a URL. Duhhhh!
That's it. If someone posts a comment without a URL, instead of their name linked to their e-mail address, it won't be linked at all. (Of course, you'll be able to see their e-mail address from the admin area).

Carmen, Might be useful to your readers, Andy Posted by: Andrew Peacock on May 28, 2004 01:46 AMOoops. That didn't come out well - should be >$MTCommentAuthorLink spam_protect="1"$< Posted by: Andrew Peacock on May 28, 2004 01:49 AM:-) 3rd time lucky <$MTCommentAuthorLink spam_protect="1"$> Posted by: Andrew Peacock on May 28, 2004 01:50 AMHi Andrew, You get an A+ for persistence :-) You can use either... depends on your preference. spam_protect="1" will modify the e-mail address to prevent spambots from eating them up. For example, if the addy is "foo@bar.com", it will be modified to "foo@bar.com". To never display the e-mail addresses at all, you can use spam_protect="0".
