Face 2 Face Encounter at Borders...
Have you ever bumped into someone you've crossed paths with online? Not at seminars or other events... I mean, live, in all their glory, in your neighborhood? Here's an encounter I had yesterday --
Joshua wanted more puzzles, so, we paid a visit to the BORDERS bookstore in our area. (Moms, they carry some really nice alphabet and numbers puzzles!)
So, after Joshua made his selections, I stopped by the marketing & sales area where I noticed a man flipping through the pages of Robert Cialdini's INFLUENCE: Science and Practice... he also had "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey, and "Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got" by Jay Abraham stacked on the edge of the shelf in front of him.
Those are some of my favorite books... so, good that I recommend them at CarmenApproved.com!
Well, as I was browsing through the titles, the man with the great books asked me:
Man: Are you in the marketing field?
Carmen: Yes, I'm an Internet Marketing Coach... those books you've got there? I've read them all, and I recommend them all to my clients!
Man: Do you? One of my mentors recommended them, so, I'm trying to decide which one I should buy today... what do you think?
Carmen: If I were to choose one, it would be "The 7 Habits"... it helps strengthen your foundation for both personal and business life. By the way, I'm Carmen (whipping out a card from my jeans), here's my card. What is it that you do?
Man: Oh, I'm... (looking at my card, then at me, then back at my card, then at me...)
Carmen: Is everything all right? (feeling a little awkward)
Man: I can't believe this! I know you! You have a son!
Carmen: My son? (glancing around, making sure Al and Joshua are within eyesight)
Man: I'm Ernest... (all in one breath --) I'm sub subscribed to your ezine... I can't believe it... You're the "Marketing Chick"... You have pictures of you and your son on your website... I can't believe this... You recommended these books to me... Irene won't believe this!
Carmen: Oh cool! Very nice to meet you, Ernest!
Ernest: This is incredible! My wife, Irene, won't believe I met you in person... here at Borders!!!
I waved my husband and Joshua over... treated Ernest to coffee while we chatted about his family, goals, and promoting his business.
E-mail communication has always been convenient... but, to chat 'live' via IM... talk over the phone... or meet in person? What a difference it makes!
